Building a Partnership

A transformational investment by Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bank will bring new career paths to key neighborhoods across multiple states. Partnering with technology services firm Interapt to provide skills training and apprenticeships, the bank will create opportunities for residents to access new careers and build generational wealth.

Fifth Third’s Neighborhood Investment Program is a $180 million program to accelerate revitalization in nine majority-Black communities across seven states. Over a three-year-period, Fifth Third announced they will provide up to $20 million in lending, investments, and philanthropic support, including grants from the Fifth Third Foundation to each neighborhood. The nine neighborhoods include:

  • Avondale, Cincinnati, OH
  • South Chicago, Chicago, IL
  • Buckeye, Cleveland, OH
  • East Tampa, Tampa, FL
  • Grove Park, Atlanta, GA
  • Arlington Woods, Indianapolis, IN
  • Historic West End, Charlotte, NC
  • Near East Side, Columbus, OH
  • Russell, Louisville, KY
Land the Job, Advance your Career

Working with instructional partners, Interapt will recruit and train up to 100 participants in tech skills such as software development, UX/UI design and data science, as well as skills for other career tracks within Fifth Third. Those who successfully complete the program will be eligible for registered, paid apprenticeships, delivering work for Fifth Third under the guidance of Interapt’s IT professionals.

“The opportunity to create living-wage jobs in partnership with the team at Interapt is really exciting for us at Fifth Third Bank,” said Jude Schramm, Chief Information Officer.  Schramm added, “creating a strong pipeline of IT professionals is not only important to the Bank but also a pathway to opportunity for residents across our footprint who are a part of our Neighborhood Investment Program.”
